What is Hypnotherapy?

We all experience Hypnosis naturally at various times of the day.  It is described as a focused state of attention. Think of it like daydreaming! Perhaps you can remember a time when you were driving your car and when you got home you realised that you can’t remember the actual drive.  However, if on that drive home you had needed to stop in an emergency you would have snapped back to reality and been able to apply the brake.

Or perhaps you have been so engrossed in a book or film that you weren’t aware of anything else going on around you because your attention is firmly on the story unfolding.

Hypnotherapy is a mixture of talking therapy and Hypnosis that brings about changes in your thoughts, feelings and behaviours at the subconscious level.  Think of the subconscious as a filing cabinet in your mind where all your beliefs about yourself and the word are stored as well as your automatic behaviour patterns and habits.

Some of what is stored in our subconscious is helpful to us, like knowing how to ride a bike or how to walk.  Although your subconscious is always trying to protect you, some of your behaviours may have become unhelpful to you now and may be holding you back from living the life you want and deserve.

How does Hypnosis feel?

Everybody’s experience of Hypnosis will feel unique to them, but it has been described as a pleasant sense of relaxation (this relaxation is therapeutic in itself).  You will be awake and aware of what is going on.  It is completely safe and as an experienced Hypnotherapist I will screen you for any contraindications before therapy begins.  I will always explain to you what we will be doing so that you can relax and enjoy the experience.

What will happen in a session?

On the initial meeting we will chat about the problem or issue that you would like to work on, I will ask you questions and come up with a tentative therapy plan.  This is a flexible approach that is individually tailored to you and your needs.  After the consultation I will guide you into Hypnosis using various techniques depending on what is appropriate for you.  Once you are in “Hypnosis” we can begin the change work using techniques and approaches which we will have discussed beforehand.  A session is usually for about an hour.  I always leave time at the end for you to ask any questions and so that we can set, mutually agreed upon, tasks for you to do in between sessions.

How many sessions will I need?

This really depends on the issue.  We can discuss this after your FREE consultation but as a guide 4-6 sessions.  You can pay on a session-by-session basis or as a block booking which is a more cost effective option.

When I'm hypnotized do I give up control?

No, you are in complete control during our sessions, you can emerge from hypnosis whenever you wish.  I can’t make you do anything that you do not want to do.

I am a guide and a facilitator for change but the change has to come from you.  One of the skills I will teach you is the art of self-hypnosis so that you can use this in between our sessions to really embed the work that we have done.  You then have this amazing tool that you can use whenever you need it.
